Allow me to introduce you to Fozzie
My computer seems excessively loud sometimes. Most of the noise, I think, comes from my power supply. So yesterday, I bought a new, quiet power supply. Unfortunately, when I got home, it turned out that my new toy wouldn't fit in my crazy non-standard case.
Oh well.
My primary computer (Fozzie, named after the muppet) was bought in December of 1999. Everything in it was top-of-the-line for that time. I spared no expense because I wanted to prolong its life. Additionally, since initially buying it, I've made sure to upgrade/add 3 components every year, to keep it from falling too far behind the technology curve. It's worked out pretty well, Fozzie runs Windows XP and Red Hat Linux 9, and has been able to handle all the software I've thrown at it.
The current specs are:
Parts of it are still top-of-the-line, parts of it aren't, but like I said, it meets my needs. Next summer I plan on doing a major renovation to Fozzie, upgrading the CPU, motherboard, and case (also entailing, most likely, RAM and power supply). That should be a fun project.
Until then, I'll stick with my abnormally loud computer :)
