This is a collection of poems by Southern poets, along with biographies of each, including many selections by Edgar Allen Poe. It was compiled by William Lander Weber, who was a respected educator at colleges in the south — teaching at Emory in Georgia and becoming President of Centenary College in Louisiana. He died in 1910, before this particular printing occurred.
The book itself is a great addition to my collection, it is in a small form factor with an attractive design on the cover. It’s part of the MacMillian’s Pocket Classics series, which reprinted many classic books in a small form factor with extra introductory material, intended for use in schools. MacMillian was founded in 1843 and still exists today, focused on publishing textbooks and educational material.
Historial context:
When this book was printed in 1913, Woodrow Wilson was president, and World War I would start the following year in 1914.
