{"id":101,"date":"2016-04-10T23:41:39","date_gmt":"2016-04-10T23:41:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/?p=101"},"modified":"2016-04-10T23:44:04","modified_gmt":"2016-04-10T23:44:04","slug":"new-ipad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/2016\/04\/10\/new-ipad\/","title":{"rendered":"New iPad!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in March 2012, I bought a third generation iPad to serve as a &#8220;family room&#8221; computer &#8212; for checking email, looking things up while watching TV, checking the weather, etc. \u00c2\u00a0It served extremely well in that role &#8212; even better than I had expected! \u00c2\u00a0In fact, I was so impressed by this concept of a lean computer that was optimized for certain tasks, that it went on to influence an entire re-thinking of my household technology infrastructure. \u00c2\u00a0I now try to focus on devices that bring technology out of the office and into the places where technology is needed, and I give a lot of thought to what each device will be used for, not just tech specs. \u00c2\u00a0That iPad, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leedberg.com\/computers\/clifford.html\">Clifford<\/a>, had a lasting impact on my technological worldview.<\/p>\n<p>But, after 4 years and a lot of use, that third generation iPad was having trouble keeping up. \u00c2\u00a0Newer versions of iOS didn&#8217;t run as fast, modern apps (designed for modern tablets) weren&#8217;t as snappy as they were four years ago, and some features that I care about (like the front-facing camera for videoconferencing) had become eclipsed by other, newer, devices. \u00c2\u00a0So, I decided that it was time to replace Clifford.<\/p>\n<p>I still feel that Apple&#8217;s iPad is the best all-around tablet available, and is supported by an extremely strong ecosystem of software, services, and other devices. \u00c2\u00a0So, I decided to stick with the iPad, and ended up getting a iPad Pro 9.7-inch, which I&#8217;ve named <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leedberg.com\/computers\/concordia.html\">Concordia<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0I feel that, for my needs, the 13-inch iPad is too big (that goes beyond &#8220;family room computer&#8221;, and the 8 inch iPad mini is too small (that&#8217;s a good size for reading books, but I have a Kindle for that). \u00c2\u00a0The 9.7-inch size is perfect for setting on the coffee table while sitting down to watch a movie.<\/p>\n<p>So far, so good. \u00c2\u00a0The screen is the best computer screen I&#8217;ve ever seen. \u00c2\u00a0The new 4-speaker setup produces that best tablet\/laptop sound I&#8217;ve ever heard. \u00c2\u00a0It&#8217;s thinner and lighter than my old iPad, which I didn&#8217;t think was possible. \u00c2\u00a0and the front-facing camera is great for videoconferencing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back in March 2012, I bought a third generation iPad to serve as a &#8220;family room&#8221; computer &#8212; for checking email, looking things up while watching TV, checking the weather, etc. \u00c2\u00a0It served extremely well in that role &#8212; even better than I had expected! \u00c2\u00a0In fact, I was so impressed by this concept of [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[12,15],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-101","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-clifford","category-concordia"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/101","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=101"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/101\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=101"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=101"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=101"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
