{"id":96,"date":"2015-07-13T23:36:19","date_gmt":"2015-07-13T23:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/?p=96"},"modified":"2015-07-13T23:37:03","modified_gmt":"2015-07-13T23:37:03","slug":"first-upgrade-for-venus-a-new-mouse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/2015\/07\/13\/first-upgrade-for-venus-a-new-mouse\/","title":{"rendered":"First upgrade for Venus &#8211; A New Mouse!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I got my new laptop, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leedberg.com\/computers\/venus.html\">Venus<\/a>, and decided to make her my primary computer, I knew that I would still frequently want a full keyboard\/mouse\/monitor setup in many situations, so I set up a &#8220;docked&#8221; environment at my desk that she could easily be connected to and disconnected from, comprised of an amazingly nice Dell monitor I have, a wireless Logitech LX7 mouse, and (oddly) a generic Dell keyboard. \u00c2\u00a0The keyboard is an anomaly &#8212; it was just a spare I started using when\u00c2\u00a0a previous wireless Logitech keyboard failed, and I haven&#8217;t had a good enough reason yet to go out of my way and replace it. \u00c2\u00a0The LX7 mouse was actually an identical duplicate of an earlier LX7 mouse I had, which after many years of use started to exhibit phantom double-clicks.<\/p>\n<p>Then all of a sudden, after 9 years of use,\u00c2\u00a0<em>this<\/em> LX7 also started to exhibit phantom double-clicks, making it nearly unusable. \u00c2\u00a0I had had this mouse for 9 years (it was my oldest computer component still actively in use), so I think it had quite a long and useful life.<\/p>\n<p>It just so happens that I had recently been giving some thought to buying a new mouse (since this one was so old), so I didn&#8217;t have to start from scratch in doing my research. \u00c2\u00a0For quite some time, I&#8217;ve been wanting to shift towards Bluetooth peripherals, with the goal of eventually having no wires other than power and video. \u00c2\u00a0The only devices I had connected via USB were my speakers, keyboard, and the wireless receiver for this LX7 mouse. \u00c2\u00a0So, I had a strong preference towards getting a Bluetooth mouse, as one step towards a USB-free computer.<\/p>\n<p>Bluetooth mice are less common than wired or &#8220;wireless-with-a-dongle&#8221; mice, so \u00c2\u00a0there&#8217;s less to pick from, but still some good, well-reviewed choices. \u00c2\u00a0After trying out several in person, I settled on the Apple Magic Mouse. \u00c2\u00a0It&#8217;s got a lot going for it: It&#8217;s Bluetooth, has a good, solid feel to it, and, best of all, has support for multi-touch gestures on its surface. \u00c2\u00a0It doesn&#8217;t support as many different gestures as a good track pad does, but it is cool having that ability, in a more limited form, right on your mouse. \u00c2\u00a0It works great for things like swiping to go back or forward, double-tapping for zoom, etc. \u00c2\u00a0So far, I think this mouse is great &#8212; and now I have one less USB device!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I got my new laptop, Venus, and decided to make her my primary computer, I knew that I would still frequently want a full keyboard\/mouse\/monitor setup in many situations, so I set up a &#8220;docked&#8221; environment at my desk that she could easily be connected to and disconnected from, comprised of an amazingly nice [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[14],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-96","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-venus"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/96","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=96"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/96\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=96"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=96"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedberg.com\/computers\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=96"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
